Guide to Bathtub Materials - What to Look for When You Choose Bathtub Materials

Equipped with hydro-massage systems, modern, simple or luxurious, bathtubs are not just a necessity, but a means of expression. Aesthetic appearance is not everything, the material from which they are made matters a lot. The starting price for a tub is $170, for simpler models, and grows as the accessories and equipments are attached. In the beginning, the most common patterns were the cast iron tubs. Today we can choose from a wide range of materials such as steel tubs, the board, acrylic or fiberglass.
Steel Tubs
Steel tubs are a very convenient option because this material has a very high resistance while. In addition, when you feel it is loosing its gloss, you can repair or re-paint it. Another advantage is that you have the freedom to choose and design the model you want for your bathroom. Unfortunately, weight can be a high draw-back because you cannot place the tub exactly where you want. For example, it is recommended to mount a steel tub (which is two times heavier than a plastic one) in a bathroom located at a higher level of the house. Although they are quite cheap, we need to keep in mind that as the metal quickly cools water and scratches easily.
Acrylic or Plastic Tubs
Despite the higher price, these types of tubs are less resistant. The greatest benefit is that they can come in a wide variety of shapes and design. In addition, they are much lighter than steel bathtubs. Because of their light weight they can be easily placed at every floor of the house.Like any other type of materials, acrylic and plastic have certain disadvantages. The first and most important consists of their very rapid deterioration, even in abrasive cleaning. However, an acrylic version is more appropriate than fiberglass because it is more resistant and keeps the water hot for a longer period of time.
Cast Iron Tubs
Cast iron tubs are the best in terms of quality. They have a very high resistance to impact, much higher than for those made of steel. In addition, long iron keeps hot water. The main disadvantages is their heavy weight, which makes them difficult to install.
These sanitary objects come in various shapes and size. Regardless of their form and where you want to place the bathtubs, you have to make a metal or a bricks and sand frame. Prior to choosing the tub, you have to do a precise measurement of the space you will place it in. Take into account both the frame and the form of the tub, leaving sufficient space for finishes.
